BASIC OFFICER COURSE (BOC) 28

Out of the ashes of COVID-19, BOC 28 brought together an outstanding group of officers-to-be, to learn, reflect and demonstrate their leadership, execution and understanding of what it means to be an Officer at FOCUS Adventure.

The Basic Officer Course put our trainees into challenging situations of body, mind and spirit, pushing them to the brink and challenging them to find solutions where none are in sight. The beginning of a journey to explore and define oneself; the turning point to unlock one’s hidden potential, growth & development.

Throughout these 4 days of training, trainees demonstrated Leadership, Teamwork, Adaptability and Innovation, making calculated decisions to achieve favourable outcomes. Navigating through the rough seas, scaling the tallest heights and fighting back against the pressure on their spirit, our newly brooded officers who successfully completed the course also formed an unyielding bond with each other, a fire that burns eternal. Congratulations to our latest batch of officers from BOC 28!

“The programmes were exciting and were well explained. By giving a reason or meaning to each activity it really tied the whole programme together. Made me realise the importance of reflection and thinking of the hidden learning points in everything we do, even down to the simplest activity.

The exciting parts were definitely the kayaking and TCH. But it was also nice to see the different activities like the race around Sentosa and the Lego challenge.

Would highly recommend the course to others because it’s not only an exciting and memorable programme but it also allowed me to reflect on myself and learn more about why I think and do things a certain way.” ~~Banas KYLE

“Glad to be a part of BOC 28 and I’m happy I made the decision to attend it. The activities done together were interesting and thought-provoking. It has allowed me to gain various insights of myself and highlighted much of my weaknesses, flaws, rigid mentalities and provided me ways in which I can reflect and work on them

My most exciting/memorable moment was when I found peace in the panic eg. when I realised I could balance better when I looked up and took a breath

Nevertheless I definitely recommend this course to others! It opens minds and if they take the challenges with a learning heart, they will have great learning outcomes!” ~~ Regina HAN

“The programme was well thought out and each activity, from short to long, was designed to be meaningful or inspirational. I’ve learnt that restrictions are not limits as it’s all in the mind, and that notions or barriers can be broken.

The High Elements showed us that physique is not everything. Teamwork and relying on each other was the theme of the course, which was refreshing. The participants will also always be in safe hands despite the challenges.”~~Kylie CHIA

“BOC is definitely a life-changer for me, with every activity being a challenge, accompanied with life lessons that is relatable and applicable to my work life. Through this course, I also manage to forge bonds and fond memories with my course mates and grow together!

The most memorable part of the course is definitely the TCH whereby we put ourselves to test to overcome the obstacles as a team, and it is very interesting how our own personalities (based on the DISC personality test we had done previously) can stand out during the process, and how it sparked our team dynamics.

Highly recommend this course for people who seek to rediscover themselves as it works out for me”~~Lynn PANG

“The morning presentation on the organisational structure and culture is informative. It provided the background for the course, which is ultimately designed to prepare aspiring officers for promotion to the rank in the firm

I have a great impression of the “Lego Challenge”. I believe the activity accomplished its goal of reflecting on the challenges encountered in real-world office circumstances, it is a very good activity.

The “Design a 45mins activity” is refreshing as most of my experience is participating in an activity rather than planning. Surprise to get a “decent” activity out within the 1.5 hours but not without its challenges. However, I always feel we learn from the reflection of our experiences rather than through experience alone.

End of the day all the programmes in the course were well thought out and have enough elements to keep people engaged and excited. I would recommend to others the course.”~~Ken KOH

“Overall, it is Egg-cellent, Seems eons ago since I camped like a student in facilities with learning objectives beyond classroom walls, egg-citing to have been through thick & thin, high & low together, each debrief shed new light and discoveries about myself and people around me. Refreshing experience x sweet memories.

Most egg-citing part of BOC: TCH. The satisfying accomplishment as a group ascend is more rewarding than enjoying the scenery alone. TCH is a Confidence booster.

Much of a reflection x improvement driven kind of learning through series of indoor to outdoor tasks as team. Gained more insights about perspectives and applications in life & work. Empowered with DISC knowledge, communication among people is elevated to another level. Highly recommended.”~~Zeyro TAN

“This 4D3N has been an insightful and fruitful one. This course itself has been a self-realisation and self-discovery journey for me.

My favourite memory out of this course would be when we had to climb The Team CHALLENGE Hourglass as I was caught off guard when I had to finish the climb with an “extra” CHALLENGE. The experience climbing from then on was exhilarating and exciting. Loved it 10/10

This Basic Officer Course has truly opened up new horizons for me and made me capable of knowing better in a theoretical level of how to work better in a team and what is needed for another person with a certain behavioural preference. I would definitely recommend Basic Officer Course to all those who wants to set out on a journey of self-discovery and insightful knowledge to leadership.”~~Asri ASRUL

“Attending Basic Officer Course has sparked my fire once again as to why I decide to choose this career path. Basic Officer Course made me understand better the company’s methodology, values and systems. This course has also benefit in many ways I never expected.

In BOC, I went through DISC Profiling Tool, which allowed me to understand the character I portray during work. Hence, I managed to understand better as to the decisions I make, especially when I’m under pressure. Afterwards, the FAcilitators relate our character profile almost to every activity we went through.

Secondly, I managed to get very good insights on how many of the things we do through outdoor activity can relate back to workspace and offices and also to our everyday life. We managed to empathize and leverage on our strengths and weaknesses, which made us a better team throughout the course.

All in all, Basic Officer Course was very insightful and I would definitely recommend to many outdoor-like people out there!”~~Zulfadhli

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Singapore

Each team will be tasked to build a robot together. After which they will be going through the learning session on manual controls and how to control them. This will allow their robots to be unique as compared to the rest. Their final objective will be to pit the robot that they built against man-made obstacles such as to carry items and moving from point A to point B or to going through a maze or to dance! The possibilities is endless! They will then customise a message for the children using the robots built and have it delivered to the beneficiaries.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand that it is not always the results that matter but also the process
  • Engage participant’s imagination and problem solving skills
  • Increase confidence and commitment levels
Allows greater meaning to giving and helping those in need
  • To tap on each other’s strengths and weaknesses
