KAYAK EXPEDITION TO KUKUP ISLAND

Over the course of Kayak Expedition on 29 – 30 December 2013, FOCUS completed a 35 kilometre-long trip to Kukup Island within 6 hours in a day in tandem kayak despite the strong wind. The Journey began at Raffles Marina, stopping by Merambong and Pelepas Island and finished in Kukup Island which is located at about 1 km offshore from the 150 year-old fishing village in Pontian, Johor. We enjoyed the charm and beautiful scenery while experiencing the kayaking with full of fun and adventure as well. We had an interesting seafood dinner that truly replenished our energy! It will be a memorable trip for everyone of us here!

As a competitive sport, Dragon Boating is considered one of the toughest sport as it is not only physically demanding but mentally challenging too. It is the only sport that requires the teamwork of 10 people practising the same paddling actions simultaneously! While it may be challenging competitively, it can also be a leisurely row of the boat at your own pace. At the same time, your fellow paddlers will learn to work together to make the boat move most efficiently! What can be better than having fun while fostering bonds at the same time?

Dragon Boating is also one of the oldest sports around. It has its roots in ancient China where it was once used for religious purposes as a way of appeasing the rain gods. Dragon Boat Races came about to commemorate an ancient warrior and poet name Qu Yuan. It has a history of over 2000 years!

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Singapore

Each team will be tasked to build a robot together. After which they will be going through the learning session on manual controls and how to control them. This will allow their robots to be unique as compared to the rest. Their final objective will be to pit the robot that they built against man-made obstacles such as to carry items and moving from point A to point B or to going through a maze or to dance! The possibilities is endless! They will then customise a message for the children using the robots built and have it delivered to the beneficiaries.

Learning Objectives

  • To understand that it is not always the results that matter but also the process
  • Engage participant’s imagination and problem solving skills
  • Increase confidence and commitment levels
Allows greater meaning to giving and helping those in need
  • To tap on each other’s strengths and weaknesses
