TRYBE’S VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION PARTY 2016

TRYBE’S VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION PARTY 2016

FOCUS Adventure is proud to be the main sponsor for Trybe’s Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party 2016, which was held at our Sentosa Learning Facility on 26th November. The event was held to appreciate the volunteers’ contribution in 2016 and for all volunteers to interact with each other across the different divisions. A total of 30 volunteers turned up for the event, which was themed “Rock & Roll”. The main highlight of the event was our Team Challenge Hourglass, which was very well received by the volunteers. Despite the light rain, the volunteers persisted on and attempted the high elements and the flight line. Thereafter, the event came to a closure with the giving out of the Certificates of Achievement, followed by an awards ceremony for the volunteers. The volunteers were also treated to a good barbeque dinner which they deserved for completing the Team Challenge Hourglass!

Volunteers’ Testimonials of the Event:

•    “I have never done anything like this before. It was very scary but fun”
•    “Jumping off the platform was the most memorable thing. I would probably remember that forever.”
•    “While we did not know each other  in the team, we were supporting each other to complete the obstacles.”

LOOLA CSR TRIP

LOOLA CSR TRIP

On 27th December 2016, a total of 16 partners from FOCUS Adventure and sister companies – CAMP CHALLENGE and Outdoor Adventures, visited LooLa Adventure Resort, an award winning eco-resort based in Bintan. It was a huge milestone for us, marking the first combined overseas CSR trip for the 3 sister companies.

Upon arrival, the team was greeted by the friendly local staff and the owner and CEO of LooLa Adventure Resort, Dr Marc Van Loo. We are extremely honored by Marc’s presence, as he introduced us to the sustainability concept that LooLa thrives and functions on, which has won many awards and accolades for the resort.

The main objective of this trip is for the team to be meaningfully engaged in a local CSR project. Together with the support and help from the staff, the team built a wastewater garden for a local household. There are many health and environmental benefits of the garden, which recycles the household’s wastewater and delivers it back cleanly into the water table. The UNICEF designed garden is part of an international research program backed by WBCSD and NUS, and we are happy to be able to contribute our part in this global project!

STB INSPIRE 3.0

STB INSPIRE 3.0

On 5 March 2017, FOCUS Adventure, in partnership with STB under the INSPIRE (In Singapore Incentives & Rewards) program, conducted a dragon boat program for 66 ladies from India, as part of efforts to promote Singapore as an incentives and rewards destination for the Indian market. With 7 boats heading out to sea together, it was our biggest dragon boat program at that point of time, testament to how much our sea-based capabilities have grown.

THE WARRIOR CHALLENGE!

THE WARRIOR CHALLENGE!

On August 5th, we hosted over 900 participants at The Warrior Challenge! on Sentosa Palawan Beach. This inaugural event was held in support of GetActive! Singapore’s National Day Celebrations. A majority of the participants were beneficiaries from non-profit, voluntary welfare organisations, supported by Sport Singapore’s philanthropic arm SportCares.

This event was planned to coincide with this year’s National Day theme, #OneNationTogether, a rallying call to unite all Singaporeans to stand together and overcome all odds together. With that in mind, The Warrior Challenge! was open to three categories: Best Friends, Family and Kids.

The Warrior Challenge! saw participants overcoming 8 obstacles, simulating the challenges our pioneer generation, such as coolie workers and samsui women, faced during the early days of Singapore, such as carrying bags of rice and transporting bricks. Other obstacles included crawling under nets, flipping tyres, going through a maze and climbing a high wall on the picturesque Palawan Beach in Sentosa. The obstacles were designed to be able to scale down on the spot for families and kids to join in the fun!

This event was a one-of-a-kind event for family and friends to enjoy the great outdoors! Besides The Warrior Challenge!, there were many fringe activities suitable for young and old. These include the Team Challenge Hourglass (a 24 meter high challenge tower comprising of different obstacles), laser combat, archery tag, bubble soccer, kayaking and dragon boat. To offer participants some respite from the heat, there were options such as Local Movie Screenings, Traditional Games Carnival and Local Food Favourites.

FALL IN!

FALL IN!

On 8 July 2017, FOCUS Adventure conducted a first ever large scale military-themed boot camp for an entire company of almost 200 participants, based on the belief that a team that goes through difficulties together grows closely together. Starting the day off with their company song and pledge to verbalize their commitment, the participants started off with 5BX (5 Basic Exercises) with facilitators role-playing drill instructors putting participants through push-ups and sit-ups whenever their movements were slow. Although sluggish and confused initially, as the day progressed the entire company grew closer and started moving quicker and more coordinated. In an unprecedented move, the entire company of almost 200 participants all did each low element together at the same time, the largest group we have ever had do an element together. Despite space constraints limiting the number of participants clearing the obstacles at any point of time, what was heart-warming was seeing the rest of the company cheering on and supporting colleagues and friends who were on the obstacles, and working together as one unit to overcome all the challenges. Even being given canned food to do outdoor cooking for their lunch did not managed to break their spirits. Overall, it was an impactful day both for the participants, overcoming challenges together as an entire company, as well as for our FOCUS Adventure facilitators, who were pushed out of their comfort zone, but stayed undaunted to deliver a quality programme.

THE SUPERMARKET RACE CHALLENGE! FOR ZEBRA TECHNOLOGIES

THE SUPERMARKET RACE CHALLENGE! FOR ZEBRA TECHNOLOGIES

On 4th July 2017, FOCUS Adventure organised The Supermarket Race Challenge! for the Marketing Department of Zebra Technologies. A total of $1,620 was spent on groceries at Giant Vivocity supermarket, and what made it special was that a large part of the amount spent was forked from the participants’ own pockets. This was the 1st time that we had participants whom support the meaningful cause to a much greater extent by donating their own money, in order to buy more groceries for the beneficiaries.

For the programme, we partnered with Lions Befrienders (http://lionsbefrienders.org.sg/) for the donation of the groceries. By going through The Supermarket Race Challenge!, the participants from Zebra Technologies were able to purchase sufficient groceries for 48 ration packs for the senior citizens. The ration packs consist of daily necessities which include toiletries, healthcare products like medicated ointment, biscuits, home care products like detergent etc. These were all items that the senior citizens needed, and we strived to be able to match their needs, at the same time purchase as many groceries as possible.

After the programme, we liaised with representatives from both Zebra Technologies and Lions Befrienders, and we delivered the ration packs to 48 different households. The senior citizens were elated to receive the ration packs, and were very grateful to the kind donations from Zebra Technologies.

Below is an excerpt from a representative of Lions Befrienders:

Dear Yueting and Yongjun,

Thank you for today’s ration distribution at Telok Blangah.

We are grateful for your introduction of Lions Befrienders to Zebra Technologies.

I look forward to another partnership opportunities with you.

BUILDING A MASTERPIECE!

BUILDING A MASTERPIECE!

FOCUS Adventure embarked on our biggest LEGO CHALLENGE programme with an institution! The objective was for the entire organisation to come together to work on their values and to align it with the institution’s purpose. It was a tough objective putting the pieces together, with our Facilitator and Project Manager having to meet our client, brainstorm for ideas and put it into a practical solution. In the end, a beautiful masterpiece was created by the entire group when the pieces came together! There was also a latest edition of live feed to be able to capture the audience attention during debrief as some of the presentation can be really intricate towards the detailed and specified blocks of LEGO. Overall everyone enjoyed the programme and it was great job. We can’t wait for an even bigger pax programme to break the record!

Some feedback from participants:

– As usual, the TEAM from FOCUS Adventure (Sauyan and Sasi) is flexible and responsive to our needs. The teambuilding programme was well-coordinated on the day of event. The professionalism and effort put in by the TEAM made us (the organisers) feel confident about whole event. Thank you and look forward to more working opportunities in future.

– Everyone in TEAM was friendly, helpful and willing to do their best in the area of expertise. Again very impressed with FOCUS. Thank you guys!!!

– Friendly and humorous facilitators; interesting questions for the lego exercises which make us think of the box and just be creative in creating the lego pieces together.

4D3N PROGRAMME FOR NEW HIRES

4D3N PROGRAMME FOR NEW HIRES

It was an intensive 4 Days 3 Night programme that the new hires from an MNC went through! The 4 days were packed with activities for the 15 participants. The suspense was high as no one knew what was next throughout the entire journey from the time they arrived to the time we ended! The last two days of the programme stretched the participants to the fullest in their camaraderie spirit and it was rewarding! On day 3, the participants set sailed on 2 of our sailboats from our Tuas office (Raffles Marina) to our site in Sentosa (One Degree 15 Marina Club) which is about 24 nautical miles away. On this particular day, the participants were in for a surprise as they faced strong currents going against them. The teams had to stand ground towards not one but two big storms! The second storm was in front of the sailboats, and we were running directly into it. One of the participants commented, “Are we heading towards the storm??” and yes they were! With many calculated risks and perceived/actual risks accessed, the Facilitators made the decision for the green light which turned out to be the best memorable experience for the participants! The amount of teamwork they had to put together during the journey was exceptional as teams need to complete various tasks on the sailboat in quick seconds and stress level was high! It was a ‘Where every moment is a challenge!’ for everyone! On a typical day the journey will take about 5-6 hours to complete. This time, the expedition took a jaw dropping 10hours to complete, and everyone came out of the boat visibly tired but a great sense of accomplishment!

Some feedback from participants:

“It teaches us to not fear the unknown and keep pushing our limits. Learned a lot from everything we did, very great job and fun activities!”

“The debrief sessions, they help us to relate the experience from the activities to the Organisation and how we can better manage ourselves to better manage the working environment.”

THE BUILD A BIKE CHALLENGE!

THE BUILD A BIKE CHALLENGE!

FOCUS Adventure client, a MNC has designed a programme for new hires coming onboard to understand the company’s culture, skills and working behaviours of fellow colleagues. The participants were not only from Singapore but from APAC and around the world. A programme that was originally a bonding programme between the new hires soon became an event that is also CSR-focused. From a quick meeting with client, an idea of infusing the induction programme with CSR was conceptualised so people can relate better to it. For this first-of-its kind programme, a total of 6 bikes were built. After the session, participants found a greater sense of purpose working in this company. This will be an ongoing programme happening every second week of each month from August to December 2017. This is an excellent example of how FOCUS collaborate with our clients to come up with innovative ideas.
